Acajutla plays a vital role in regional trade and logistics, serving as a key gateway for containerized, bulk, and general cargo. With 4 berthing areas, the port is capable of handling diverse cargo types, supporting the country’s growing import and export activities.

Following the completion of the terminal takeover, Acajutla now operates under a 50-year concession agreement, strengthening its long-term role in maritime trade. The terminal features warehouses and a container yard, providing multiple storage and logistics solutions. With its strategic location and robust infrastructure, Acajutla is dedicated to fostering El Salvador’s economic growth.

The port expansion project at the terminal will be executed in 2 phases: The initial phase, Phase 0, includes an estimated USD 50 million investment to increase the productivity and efficiency of the Port of Acajutla. In Phase 1, a significant investment will fund the construction of a 510-meter dock with a depth of 16.5 meters, raising the port’s container handling capacity from 500,000 TEUs to 875,000 TEUs per year. These upgrades will make Acajutla one of the most advanced ports in the region and a point of reference for international trade.
